The team visited three regions (Littoral, West and Centre) from July 21 to 26, 2019. The opening ceremony was held in Douala, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

« It’s a satisfactory cooperation. After 40 years of cooperation, this is the first time so many IFAD Board Members are visiting our country. We are delighted to welcome them,“ declared the Minister, Gabriel Mbairobe

Since 1981, the Cameroon-IFAD cooperation has made it possible to carry out more than 11 projects for a total cost of more than 400 million US dollars, that is, more than CFA 233 billion francs.

To improve its interventions, a delegation of about fifteen nationalities comprising about twenty personalities, Board members and senior officials of the organization, exchanged with actors at different levels. In addition to the meetings organized at the institutional level, the members, under the leadership of the Minister Delegate, Clémentine Ananga Messina went to the field to experience the reality of the implementation of the projects

The delegation visited four projects, namely:  the Youth Agropastoral Entrepreneurship Promotion Programme (AEP Youth); the Aquaculture Entrepreneurship Promotion Project (AEPP); the Support Project to the Development of Rural Microfinance (PADMIR) and the Support Project to the Development of Agricultural sub-sectors (PADFA). The implementing actors of these projects highlighted the results, approaches, innovations and challenges encountered.

In all the localities visited, the beneficiaries, who were happy with the results and the transformations brought into their lives thanks to the support of these different projects, reserved a warm welcome to the delegation. The meetings with the people were punctuated by speeches, expression of gratitude, formulation of expectations, songs and dances.

The members of the delegation had the opportunity to evaluate, understand, learn, discover and appreciate the achievements on the field.  During the working session with the Prime Minister, Head of Government, the Head of Mission, His Excellency Hirsham BADR said, « Cameroon is a country that means a lot to IFAD. We were satisfied with what we saw on the field“

At the end of the mission, the delegation held a working session with the members of Government heading the ministries involved in the areas of intervention of IFAD. In the light of the observations on the field, the members made recommendations. For its part, the government expressed its satisfaction with this dense and fruitful cooperation. It reiterated its determination to transform the challenges into opportunities for the socio-economic development of the rural poor, especially young people and women in the value chains with a view to stimulating inclusive and sustainable rural growth and transformation.
